The resilient approach of the divergent infrastructure wall by loïc Bernet, Franziska berthold and Athina Stefani convinced the jury of the wettbewerbe aktuell student award wovon wir träumen. The winners of the 10 finalists will be announced in Frankfurt at the light and building fair on march 14 2016. As the starting point of an upgrading project in an informal neighbourhood of Addis Ababa the students proposed an urban-framing wall, which holds all the necessary infrastructure and serves as the backbone of self-made buildings. The highly robust, incremental and user-led flexible approach encourages diversity and differentiation in housing by promoting traditional architecture and local materials and manufacturing. At the same time it allows the local municipalities to sympathetically control and participate in the rapid urban expansion of Ethiopias capital. Lecture: Urban Analyses for tall builings, at 18:00. Arriving Architecture due to military conflicts and human catastrophies 60 million people are on the run, which is the highest number of migration since world War. Germany, led by its worshipped chancellor Mama merkel, is the most desirable destination for most of the migrants heading to european countries. A seemingly unstoppable influx will lead 1 million refugees into germany by the end of this year. Despite of a strong welcoming culture and a productive helpfullness within local societies, future-orientated strategies on all social, economic but strongly urban levels must be developed as soon as possible. The seminar calls for conceptual strategies to meet the demand of integrating spaces, cultural demands and social involvement for the recently arrived. The goal will not be a temporary sheltering, but a shared long-lasting diametral social insertion of living habits and traditions between the new and the settled. Teaching staff housing Chair: Prof.
Phase ii for Research Project Application "In - integrated Infrastructure". The proposal for the funding of the international research project "Integrated Infrastructure" has passed the application phase. Integrated Infrastructure (IN) is an international and interdisciplinary research and teaching project at the Emerging City lab Addis Ababa (ECL) between the Ethiopia institute for Architecture, building Construction and City development (eiabc) and the bauhaus University weimar (BUW). The project develops an integrated planning strategy (IPS) for emerging cities in Ethiopia. Thereby urban infrastructure, urban design and building technology are connected via a digital parametric planning platform to support participatory creation of small towns.
The project encourages interested PhD candidates to join with accompanying themes. Further Information can be found soon at: /service/drupal-infar/In3 "Syn City - parametric Masterplanning for emerging cities" - infAR design studio sose 2016. Book publication - interdisciplinary methods for user-centred building evaluation. The book take one building Interdisciplinary research Perspectives of the seattle central Library (eds. Ruth Conroy dalton, 2017) highlights interdisciplinary methods for building evaluation, using the seattle central Library (Rem koolhaas oma/lmn, 2004) as case study. The contributions from internationally renowned researchers of the fields of architecture, architectural criticism, phenomenology, sociology, environmental psychology, and cognitive science illustrate the design process, user-centred spatial analyses, and studies of patrons behaviour, decision-making and experience in the library. One of our team members, saskia kuliga, contributed chapters 8 (Emotional Responses to locations in the seattle central Library) and 10 (Using social media to gather users feedback of the seattle central Library). With the bauhaus Post-doc Scholarship 2017, saskia investigates how methods from human-computer interaction and virtual reality simulation supplement user-centred planning and the early evaluation of human-environment interactions. Students can get the book at the universitys library: Np 3100/40. The publishers website and editors can be found here.

In collaboration with deutsche bahn, rené weiser and Bogdan Shevchenko sought to answer this question in a free semester project that was supervised by the chair of information science (Infar, vertr.-Prof. Sven Schneider and. Using heidelberg station as case study in InfAR's virtual reality laboratory, the two students systematically varied the position of an information point, where travellers can acquire information about trains and locations on the station. Preliminary results showed that study participants appreciated an updated design of the original information desk (which was located centrally in the station and clearly visible from the main entrance hall) more than the locations of the two other information points (which were less visible). Virtual reality simulations hold much potential for examining buildings prior to occupancy (pre-occupancy evaluation rather than when the building is already constructed (post-occupancy evaluation).
institutions and praxis partners across the globe with the common goal to increase the efficiency and quality of architecture and urban planning. Get the plugin and read more at: book publication - "The virtual and the real in Planning and Urban Design: Perspectives, Practices and Applications". It explores the merging relationship between physical and virtual spaces in planning and urban design. Technological advances such as smart sensors, interactive screens, locative media and evolving computation software have impacted the ways in which people experience, explore, interact with and create these complex spaces. This book draws together a broad range of interdisciplinary researchers in areas such as architecture, urban design, spatial planning, geoinformation science, computer science and psychology to introduce the theories, models, opportunities and uncertainties involved in the interplay between virtual and physical spaces. Using a wide range of international contributors, from the uk, usa, germany, france, switzerland, the netherlands and Japan, it provides a framework for assessing how digital technology alters data collection, analysis and our perception of physical space. Saskia kuliga is a researcher and environmental psychologist at the chair of information science in architecture (InfAR) at bauhaus University weimar. She contributed Chapter 5 "From real to virtual and Back - a multi-method approach for investigating the impact of urban morphology on human spatial experiences". This chapter describes research that is conducted together with Martin bielik, sven Schneider, dirk donath, and reinhard König at InfAR; in collaboration with Danielle Griego, varun Ohja, and Gerhard Schmitt from eth zürich.
In this student-project we tried to bridge the gap between architectural design and environmental psychology. . Therefore, students learned how to evaluate built environments in terms of human-centred aspects such as wayfinding, social interaction and spatial experience. Second they developed a design strategy that anticipates the human-perspective in the creation of spaces. As a case we used the design of a center for Academic Exchange, a multi-functional building for lectures, seminars, conferences, living and working, requiring a careful consideration of different user groups (scientists, students, visitors ) and their interactions. . After your building designs were created, they were tested in a virtual reality simulation using Oculus Rift. Following a peer evaluation (everyone is evaluating the designs of the others by taking eye-level perspective of a potential building user, the critics and comments were used to revise the design. In this final presentation the revised designs are presented and reviewed on a multi-user-virtual-reality display. Kerstin sailer (University college london). Buildings are made for humans. So, the design of buildings requires architects to anticipate how humans will experience and behave in the planned environment. However, this is not an easy task, database due to the vast amount of influencing factors on both sides - the physical environment (such as geometry, light, color) - and the human itself (different social backgrounds, expectations, age, etc.).
