90 of the time i am disappointed in movie remakes, but I feel like this one could be really good like gone girl status good. We have to wait though; they casted Emily Blunt as the lead role and she is pregnant so filming got put on hold. About the book i will try not to spoil: The lead narrator, rachel is absolutely crazy for sure, but so easy to love and connect with. I found myself feeling bad for her and wanting to go to her place with pizza and a bottle of wine and just hang out. This girl finds herself obsessed with this couple she doesnt even know. She sees their apartment (and in turn them) from the train every morning and evening on her commute. She makes up a story about their life in her head, and even gives them names. Well obviously, we eventually find out who these people really are and their actual stories, but Rachel gets overly involved in an awkward manner to and awkward case.

But the closer you get to film, brushing aside dead leaves and examining the scene, the more you realize they actually have little to do with each other. The existence of these twin mysteries hints at a craftier, crueler movie that could have been, but The girl on the Train keeps it simple. Its final set-piece is alarming and unnerving and worth the wait.

Just as evanss and Justin Therouxs handsome, menacing maleness had me pining for Ben Afflecks perfect preppy-scuzzy turn in Finchers film. (Though I will say, i vastly preferred evanss Girl on the Train shower scene to Afflecks much-debated one in Gone girl. ) While Blunt and others do their mighty best to keep The girl on the Train as high-brow and psychologically savvy as possible (Bennett and Ferguson are both strong on this front by its climax, the film has become a glossy version of a 1990s.

The rules of the movie here are fuzzy: either Rachel was blackout drunk or she wasnt. Try as many of us have to recover data after a particularly bad night of drinking, some things are just lost theater forever. But taylor has to give some sense of cumulative build to the mystery, so he introduces woozy glimpses into rachels memory that gradually take shape and sharpen.

The girl on the Train is much younger, yet she is unable to remember much about the night a young woman went missing near her old home blood, an underpass, a blue dress and a man with red hair keep jumbling in her mind. The narrative is skilfully split between three women whose lives interlink tragically: Rachel, megan and Anna. We first encounter Rachel on the commute home from London, just another tired worker on her way back to the suburbs except that she has four cans of pre-mixed gin and tonic in her bag, and thats only for starters. Its Friday, so I dont have to feel guilty about drinking on the train. The fun starts here.
